Robert Nkemdiche is a world class athlete. That’s a fact that can’t be denied. The 6’3″, 296 junior defensive tackle from Ole Miss is capable of producing plays that only the top tier of NFL athletes can make. However, he’s extremely raw with his technique and at times has a lack of awareness for situational football. Some of this can be rationalized; Nkemdiche was a 5-star defensive end prospect coming out of high school and spent his freshman year playing on the edge. The transition from defensive end to defensive tackle can be a tricky one. Players move a bit faster on the interior with an increased sense of violence and fervor. Robert Nkemdiche still faces a huge learning curve in that facet as he makes the leap to the NFL.
This video breaks down the first half of his game against the University of Alabama. It’s a nice example of his strengths, weaknesses, and gives a frame of how far he needs to go as a player mentally and physically.
